Office of Geo B. Sargent. Cash advances made on Produce consigned to Correspondents in Boston and New York. Particular attention is paid to payment of Taxes, Purchase and Sale of Lands, &c., and all other matters pertaining to an Agency and Commission Business. Davenport Iowa, 2 July 1860 Thos. C Durant Esq N. Yk.- Dear Doctor, Before the suspension of Cook +Sargent their Agent [filed?] the Taxes for 1859 on the John O.Sargent lands sold you, and he has since been holding the tax receipts, occasionally drumming up [illegible] for payment. John O S.advises [C P.?] under date of 11 May that he has paid you $326.37 for taxes on these lands, and if agreeable had you not better place me in funds to that amount to liquidate the matter. I expect to collect a a note [soon?] belonging to "[illegible"] amtg to $500 + int, but it will all be [absorbed?] in payment of taxes of that a/c. Nothing New Yours Truly Jh. L Coffin
