Boston, August 1st, 1874. Thos. C. Durant, Esq. Dear Sir, I have sold to John Leander, subject to your approval, the E 1/2 of SE 1/4, E 1/2 of NE 1/4 and NW 1/4 of NE 1/4 21. 80. 8 = 200 acres Johnson County, for $4,000 = Terms $500 = 1st Sep '74, $500- Oct 1 75, & balance in 3 equal annual payments from 1 Oct. '75 with interest @ 10% payable annually. I advise making this sale, although the terms are somewhat liberal, the price is good, $20 an acre. The customer, John Leander has six grown up sons and a farm adjoining - my local agent writes that he is worthy and industrious and will no doubt meet his payments. I enclose a "Contract" which if agreeable please sign and return, and I will hold on to it until the final payment is made - No acknowledgement is necessary. Also enclose a list of your notes in my hands at Davenport for collection, amounting to $7,431 62/100. Yours truly John L. Coffin.
