Direct to P.O. Box 3106. John L Coffin, Iowa Land Agency, 130 State St. Boston. -Offices- Davenport, Iowa. Lands bought and sold. Mortgages negotiated. Taxes paid. Old patent titles investigated. Boston, August 21st, 1874. Thos C. Durant, Esq. 20 Nassau Street New York Dear Sir, Yours of 20th int recd and as all your Mortgages and Notes are at my Davenport office, I have telegraphed instructions to have them assigned and mailed to you to day. The holder of a mortgage note, controls the Mortgage, whether assigned in the records or not, so decided by the Sup. Court of Iowa - but, in order to make the assignment of the mortgage regular on the County records, an acknowledgement of the assignor is necessary, and I enclose herewith a form of assignment, and certificate of acknowledgement, to be endorsed on the mortgage in case my folks should not have time to complete them, for mailing to day- The note due 23rd inst, they will retain and remit as instructed- Bear in mind, that your "contract" to John Leander dated Aug 1st '74, for East half of North East 1/4, the East 1/2
