Boston, September 8th 1874 H. C. Crane, Esq, Atty 26 Nassau Street - New York Dear Sir, Your two letters of yesterdays date, with enclosures as stated, recd .- Mortgages will be obtained, in delivery of the Deeds, and filed for record, and forwarded to you from Iowa, in due course- The Deed to John H Diehl should be "Poweshiek" County, instead of "Iowa", and I have instructed my bookkeeper to alter it accordingly, he being quite skillful in such business having formerly kept books in New York for a number of years. The certificate of the Clerk of Court that Samuel W. Tuttle was a Notary Public &c", appended to the Deeds, is useless and not required in Iowa, and causes an additional expense to the Grantee for recording - I enclosed a copy of Iowa lands unsold at this date - The 50 acres in 25.81.11 is laid out into Term (?) Lots, called "Durant's Add" to Marengo" - about 4/5th of the Lots lie south of the C. R.R. & P.R.R. (old M&M) and no sales have been made of these last named - they are not near as valuable as those we have sold in the North of the RRd, and nearer the town, at $300 - Each. Yours Truly, Jno. L. Coffin
