Davenport, Iowa, Nov. 7 1874 H. C. Crane, Esq, Atty New York Dear Sir; Referring to my letter of 2d inst, I wish to apologize for asking you to send deed for C. C. Oakes. I have just discovered that you sent the deed on 8th ult, but it arrived during my absence from the City, and was at once forwarded to Mr. Oakes. Please find enclosed Oakes 3 notes of $200 each. I will send mortgage as soon as recorded, & also Scanlon's & Brack's. Mrs. Waterman will pay off her notes the first of next week so no mortgage will be needed from her. Yours Respectfully Jno. L.
