J.E. Henry Esq Dr Sir J.H. Moulton agent of the Rock Island and Port Byron Railroad, says there is from 8 to 10000 ties on the road, about 5000 at or near Cordeva and that they are distributed for from 5 to 7. miles east of Cordeva, the ties are mostly Tamerack, & some yellow pine, and a few sawed oak. there is about 2/3 of them sound, a man who helped to get them out says a part was made from fallen timber. the same man told me they could be loaded on to barges from the River Bank for 25 cts per 100 - it will cost from 5 to 10 cts each to deliver them at Davenport. the full value of the sound ties at Davenport is about 25 cts culls from 5 to 12 1/2 cts - the ties are owned by Henry Farnam. So says the agent, Moulton, Respectfully Yours, B.B. Brayton
