Helen Grundman Prescott, Iowa. is a windbreak for the barn lots and fine for shelter for the cattle in the winter. This is also five rows deep at four feet apart consisting of maples, mulberries, oaks, walnuts, and hickory, some seedling trees set, others just planted the seed. In the last few years we have started a new grove for the north east protection, it is set in a low wet place or draw. These were willow cuttings and seedlings, cottonwoods about a thousand. The willows grew fine but the cottonwood not so well. These late two groves have had much care like corn, cultivated and hoed to keep the weeds down, also they are fenced to protect it from the stock.
