Woman Suffrage Meeting. February 17, 1916 Miss Joy - chairman Purpose of Meeting - organization A motion to organize under the following resolution was made by Portia Evans: "Resolved, that it is the purpose of this meeting to form an organization known as the S.U.I. Equal Suffrage Association, the aim of the Association being to help other Iowans, both men and women, in their efforts to gain, at the June fifth elections, full powers of citizenship for the women of the State of Iowa." After discussion the motion was unanimously carried. The chair suggested that a nominating committee be apointed. It was moved and seconded that the chair appoint a committee of three as a committee to nominate permanent officers. Magdalene Freyder, Ruth Nissen and Myrtle Tudor were appointed and directed by the chair to report at the meeting (Feb. 17) after a short withdrawal. The chair announced that no dues were to be collected; that all meetings of the Association were to be called meetings
