Icing for Cake -- 1 lb sugar, cold water, just enough to dissolve the lumps. Whites of 3 Eggs, beat a little and add to the sugar & water. Put in a deep bowl & place the bowl in a vessel of boiling water; beat the mixture; it will first become thin & clear & then thicken. When quite thick, remove from the fire & beat till cold & thick Enough. then spread on with a knife. It is perfectly white, glistens beautifully & will be hard & [shiny?]
