44. Dean Cloboan's Oyntment Rosemary, then the youngest bay leaves, red sage of each 2 handfulls, pick'em but not wash'em, cut em small & bruise'em in a mortar, then take 3 pound of mutton suet, hot out of the sheep, mix it with these herbs till tis all of a colour, put it into a Gally pot, stopt close for 8 days, then boyl it softly & when tis boyl'd put to it a bottle of the best Olive Oyl & 2 oz: of oyl of Spike Take care it does not burn, take some out & when it looks very green, it is enough, the best time to make it is in May, keep it in earthen pots covered with paper or parchment The virtue of the above oyntment, are to help digestion apply'd to the stomach, it expels obstructions, it is good for aches swellings or wounds stiches, strains, burns or scalds the sciatica, for a pain in the head or ear put in the quantity of a pea stop the ear with black wool 45. Dead Palsey Spirit Wine one quart, spririt Sal Aemoniack half an oz spirit of hartshorn half an oz: oyl of Amber, 1 oz, oyl of tartar 1 oz: oyl of turpentine 2 oz: mix these together, shake the bottle every time you use it, you must anoynt the part Night & Morn: & when you find it grones better doe it only every night, it will be enough
