72. Red Powder Scabious [Carduns?] [Formentil?], Betony, Burrage, Bugloss, Marrigolds, Sage & Clove Gilliflowers of each one handfull Steep all these in 3 pints of white wine & half a pint Sack In a stone Jug close stopt for 24 hours, shake it often, then strain it off to a pound of Bole Anmoniak put as much of this Liquor as will make it as Thick as Butter Then [illegible] it in the sun stir it often & as it thickens put in more liquor, so do till all is spent, only save as much as will steep 3 pennyw:th Saffron, w:ch strain out & add an oz of Alcarmes as much mithridate & half an oz of Venice Treacle, mix these in your powder & w:n tis as stiff as paste mould it close into balls, set 'em in the sun to dry & dry very well least they mould 73. Lady Fairfax's Lime Water [Ofunstackt?] Lime one quart, put to it 4 gall:ns of running water let it stand 24 hours, there will be a fat on the top w:ch take off and strain the water from the lime, then put to it 1 P:d English sliced, half a p:d Aniseeds bruised, half a p:d sasafras 6 blades of large mace it must stand 24 hours before tis used, tis good for any moist or watry humour Tis to be taken half a p:t in the morn: & 3 or 4 hours after dinner & walk after it, & a wine glafs going to bed, if you find it bending put in some purging thing that will work once or twice a day If you find good by this you have leave takeing for a month or Two & then take it again
