63 Luctells Balsam. Take a quarter of a Pound of Yellow wax, cut it into many pieces, put it into an Earthen pott, or pan of sack, Melt it and when its melted take it of the fire, then take a pint of Venice Turpentine, wash the Terpentine in palentino water, then pour Both your Terpentine and Oyle into a pan, when the wax is Melted then boile them altogether with a very Soft fire, then set it by to be thoroughly cold, and take away the Cake from the Sack, then melt the Cake in the pan again, and when its Melted put it in a Ounce of the best red [Sanders?] you can gett And so keep it Stirring Continually till it be cold, then put it into a Gelly pott, and make use of it as you See Occation._._ Sirrop of Roses. Take a bottle of fair water and as many rose buds as will Make it thick, bruise your Roses, and when the Water boile and is Scum'd, put your roses in, give them a Warm then take Them of, and cover them close till afternoon or next day, Then wring out your Roses and Set your Liquor on the fire, When its ready to Seeth, put in as many Roses as you did before, give them a boile and cover them close, and take to every pint of Liquor a Pound of Sugar, and boile it to a Sirrup, some will stew it and not boile it after the first, untill they boile it up This sirrup doth purge Water and melancholy with two drams of good Rubub Slic'd, which must be infus'd amongst the Roses. Sirrup of Violetts. Cut the blue of the leaves, put as much water in a Silver Tankard as will cover them, then Set it into a Skillet of hot water, To infuse basically, and when your leaves are very White and the water blue Strain them out, and to every pint 2 pounds of Loafe Sugar, then set the same Tankard into the Skillet again, and let your Sirrup infuse as before, when The Scum rises, take it of, and take care you don't boile it Too high for fear it should Candy, make Sirrup of Cowslips the same way._._._. Sirrup of Gilliflowers. Cut the Red to the White, Set on your water, and let it boile Very well, then weigh your flowers, and to a Pound of flowers allow almost a pint of Water and half a pint of Sack, put The Water on boiling hott, and cover them down close for 2
