A Common Seed Cake 2 lb of Flour 1 lb of Currants rubbed in with some Carraway Seeds, & Sugar, a Pint of Milk with Six Ounces of Butter melted in, 2 Eggs & 3 Spoonfuls of small Beer warm mix it well & set it to rise before the fire, flour & Butter the Pan well & bake it in a Quick oven To Make Elder Wine To Nine Gallons of Water put half a Bushel of Berries boil them half an hour, then strain it off, to every Gallon of Liquor two pound of Sugar then boil it half an hour more scuming it all the while, when it is Milk warm spread some barm upon a toast of Bread to work it and when you put it in the Barrel put a pound of chopt Raisins to every Gallon in your barrel stiring them every day for ten days or a fortnight Mrs Brookes Receipts
