New York Jan'y 6th 1864 T. C. Durant Esq Crest Pacific R. Rd Co Dear Sir Referring to our conversation in regard to the line of road, which shall be adopted as the First Main Eastern Connection, of your Pacific Road, with Chicago, I propose to submit for your consideration, in behalf of the friends of the Cedar Rapids & Missouri River R. R. Co the following proposition - First that with a view to the greatest combination of strength and energy in opening the great National Avenue to the Pacific, the friends of the M & Missouri, and those of the Cedar Rapids roads, agree to unite on one line, from the Eastern Terminus of your Pacific road, or from the North Bend of the Platt River, as shall be deemed best, as your first & main eastern connection, which line shall be established with a view to the cost of its construction - the time in which it can be completed - and its availability when completed, as the best possible eastern connection for your Pacific Road & that this
