Think the real object was a sort of "fishing" process to try + find out something + if so, it was so far as our evidence went a practical - yes I may say an absolute failure. Mr. [Pond?] was with us and is to be there on Friday again. I have some rather interesting things to tell you in connection with this matter - which however are of no vital importance, only giving to show what some persons claiming to be friendly to the Road, say sometimes, when they don't know any is around to hear -- Yrs truly C.H.
