Union County, NC August 20th, 1885 T C Durant Esq No [7?] South st. N [illegible] City Dear Sir, The work at the Marrean Mine is Progressing as fast as could be expected. We have had a great deal of sickness at both places but moar at this mine than at the Munroe. Cater WIlliams & Mr. Bonner have both been sick every since I came back and I have [heed?] the whole to attend to, but they will be able to be at the mines on Mondey. The mill will not be ready to run as soon as I Expeceted, Lance seys I have six [illegible] at weeks end Lance seys only two. I am working on veine15 and am preparing to put up a [illegible] on veine 13, they are the two veines that I shall work on a present. Mr [Palence?] was here last week, he said that he would write you soon as he got back to the Mc Cullocks. The stones for the mill are ready and I shall send for them next week. I have also asked a [Bad?] stone for a DraegMill 10 feet in Diameter if in case he got [out?] so large. When done we shall have one of the best mills in the county
