have been paying the rent to Dawning's without knowing whether I was justifiable in so doing or not for I understand that you own the prop-erty + I want to rent it from you as I have been living here so long + am getting too old to be moving from place to place So much + the Dawnings family (the Wagers) claim that the property belongs to them since their father's decease (Hugh Dawning) + are going to put me off of it + work it themselves + I want to know now if you will let me have the place, your Brother W F Durant can inform you all about me as a laborer it was him I first rented the place from + have been here ever since + would like to remain here as long as you will rent I will take as good care of the place + keep it in as good repar as any one + give you as much [pr?] [amen?] for it as any one I would prefer giving sure [rest?] + will give, [?] secure the payment of whatever is right for it if you will let me have it please let me know immediately whether I can have it or not as [seed?] time is now at hand + I want to saw if I get it + let me also know whether the Dawnings heirs have any right to put me off + if they have I will go peaceably if you will not let me have it; if they do not own the property, they are badly damaging it in cutting of the + setting the lumber for [tails?] + shingles + boards which if you own the property + do not know of such waste you should know they have let Benjamin [Hawce?] cut + clear up about fifty acres of woodland [highly?] [Timbered?] [at the South Earl - end of them please?] + they are receiving the rent from him also
