Council Bluffs Iowa May 7th 1870 Joseph Dugdale Dear Sir Your two letters in one just received. I do not wish to dictate in the matter of convention or association. Do all as you think best - I am only sorry to have it held so far to one side that the North & West cannot be well represented. Should be glad to attend myself, but the distance and expense will prevent. There will be enough without me and I shall not be missed. I have hardly strength for much speaking, or active participation in the work, so I readily yield to others, both in matters of work and judgement. You can use the name of Mr Hale if you like. It would give me great pleasure to meet yourself & wife & Bell Mans-
