the best men (not politicians) would be elected to office. I do not think women, as a class, desire office in affairs of state. To be a member of the school board in her district, or an inspector of public institutions, would be her highest ambition. Woman are intensely interested in all that tends to make the world better, and would throw into that work an enthusiasm that I believe would bear much fruit. The proudest thing I can say of my husband is that through long and persistent personal efforts, against great odds, he was rewarded by seeing all the institutions of learning, in beautiful Iowa,open their doors to women and girls, on equal terms with their brothers.
