45 orange peel or citron (french [cedrar?] into each pie. N.B. It is an improvement to the mince meat to add 1 and 1/2 pound of candied orange, lemon and citron mixed cut into Small thin pieces at the time of making. Dr. Blake's Receipt for Tooth ache - Spoils the teeth (Brewster) Alum reduced to an impalpable powder 2 drachms Nitrous Spirit of Ether 7 drachms - Mix & apply to the decayed tooth. To cure hams Mrs. Clarks 1 lb Sugar, 1 lb bay Salt, 1 oz of Salt petre, 1 oz juniper berries, to a common sizd english ham; the Sugar to be first well rubbed in before the fire if the weather is cold; then the Salts finely pounded, and the juniper berries bruised; turn the ham in the pickle twice a day, and baste it well with the brine. let it remain 3 weeks in this pickle then hang it for a day to drain, before you put it in the chimney to smoke. If you bake a ham, cover it with a thin paste of flour and water.
