The steam in this pickle will be fit to use in a month NB The cucumbers must be yellow before you gather them. Fr Tothergills Prescription for making Daffys Elixer 2 oz caraway seeds - 2 ounce of corriander seeds 2 oz annis seeds 2 oz of elicampan root 2 oz of stick liqourice 2 oz of [Liguam vitae chips?] 1/2 oz of English saffron 6 oz of [tena?] & [lb of far?] raisins stoned PS. The seeds must be bruis'd and the elicampan sliced, the stick liquorice scraped & sliced the stalks to be picked out of the [sena?] The whole to be infusd in a gallon of the best Brandy to stand 9 days shaking the Bottle often & then to be strain'd through a peice of fine muslin and Bottle. Take the quantity of two large tablespoons filled at a time in some cases three. It is good for all complaints of the gout, cholic and indigestion excellent in windy disorders, and the gravel, also for rheumatism in the Bowels. Miss Wright Richmond Gingerbread Snaps Take a tea cup full of cream, and half a pound of Butter, set it upon the fire just to melt the Butter, then put to it one pound of Treacle and half a pound of moist sugar, warm them alltogether, take one pound of flower, and a great deal of ground ginger, the rind of one lemon shred small, mix your flower, ginger, lemon peel and warm treacle together. Butter your tins and drop on your paste. let it stand a few minutes before the fire till it has run as thin as you like it. Bake it in a moderate oven, & keep it in a very dry place.
