Hooping Cough Mrs Morley To an infant a few months old, one qt of a Gn of powdered Alum in a little Sugar and Water three times a day upon an empty stomach, increase the dose the second day to half a Grain and give that quantity as directed till the Cough is removed, To a Child one Year old, begin with 1/2 a Gn and increase the quantity to 1 Gn A Child 4 Yrs old may begin with 2 G.n increasing the quantity to 4 Gr.n this regulating the dose in every case according to the age - An adult may begin with taking 10 Gr.n increasing the quantity to 20 or 30 Gr.n The bowels should be gently affected of course this point must be attended to and the dose regulated accordingly - No other medicine must be administered except an Emetic in the first instance if it appears necessary, except in the case of infants -- a milk diet should be avoided as much as possible - The Cough is usually cured in a fortnight - This prescription seldom fails. Take it out and press it well, and uptowards trim it neatly Serve it up with aspect Jelly To make Gingerbread Snaps Mrs Barwick Low Hall Two pounds of flour, 1 lb of moist Sugar, 1 lb of Treacle, 10 ounces of Butter, melt the Treacle and Butter gently together, mix in the flour a small quantity of powdered Cloves mace, and 3/4 of an ounce of powdered Ginger with the Sugar. Then add the Treacle, make it into paste let it stand till next morning roll it out thin cut into small Cubes, and Bake on Tins
