Thin Cakes -- Mrs. Yorke Half a pound of flour 1/4 lb sifted sugar. 1 Tablespoonful of caraway seeds well mixed with thick cream sufficient to make paste of a proper consistency for rolling out thin as a wafar cut them into the size you wish & bake them lightly keep them in a very warm place or they become soft & require heating a gain for use, the a bove make 150 one size - Cabinet Pudding Two ounces of macroons, 2 ditto ratafie drops, 4 spunge biscuits broken in half lay them in a basin & pour over them half a pint of white wine a wine glass full of Brandy, then butter your mould & lay some raisins in rows the mould a bout half full, then put in your cakes & have ready a good custard put your custard over your pudding & have prior to it that it may get all mixed - 2 hours to boil - To Destroy Flies - Mrs. Smales Half a Tea spoonful of Black pepper (ground) one ditto of brown sugar & 1 Tablespoonful of cream mixed together in a saucer or plate & the flies will soon dissapear - NB it is better boiled and a little milk added to it Soda Cake Mrs. Foster 1 lb of Flour, 1 lb of Currants, 1/2 lb of loaf sugar 1/4 lb of Butter, 2 oz of candid Lemon cut small 2 small teaspoonfuls of carbonated Soda mix with rather less than a pint of new milk mix them together; The cake requires 3 hours to bake it not to make it thin - Better Cake Do 1 lb of flour, 1/2 lb of sugar, 1/2 lb of currants & 2 Eggs after all is mix'd put a Teaspoonful (not filled up) of soda into a tea cup full of milk, mix it quickly in & add orange peel or marmlade if liked, if less milk 6 oz of butter will do & carraway seed used instead of currants
