Icing for Mille Hows Cake To imitate Marble take 3 Tablespoonfulls of double refined sugar pounded & sifted extremely fine wet it with juice of Lemon & cold water, & mix it with a spoon, when of a tolerable consistency lay it upon parts of yr cake when dry it will make the finest possible glazed & you may paint upon it what you please - Grotto Cake Take a pound of butter & rub it till it is as fine as cream then take 1 lb of pounded sugar with some grated lemon & 2 Eggs, the yolks & whites beaten together, beat it together with your hand till it is very light. Take 1 lb 1/2 of sifted flour, stir it gently & then spread your paste thin on yr baking tins & cut them in an oval shape serve them up with sweetmeats between with an oval icing on the top ornaments to your taste To make Coffee A 1/4 lb Coffee, 3 pints of cold water, the white of an egg mixed with the Coffee put it on the fire till it boils Let it remain ten minutes which will clear it sufficiently for use 1/4 lb Coffee make it very strong.
