174 Capn Scotts Cure for Rheumatism - an ounce Compound Tincture of Aloes, half an ounce etherial spirit of Turpentine half an ounce liquid Sal volatile - (amonia To be shaken before using - 50 drops at night - Capn. Scott took - 50 drops night & morning the newspapers said - it causes perspiration - wear flannel & shift it often - perhaps 30 or 40 drops for [old?] people might be sufficient - In cases of apprehended inflamation of the Bowels - besides bleeding and Blistering - [illegible] of Gruel every hour - when Calomel is given - or Castor Oil to give a [illegible] to [illegible] the operation and when Aperint Pills are taken at night - a Tea-spoonful of Tasteless Salts or Epsom diluted in a Cup full of Beef - Tea in the morning - Dr Davidson Camphor Julep Dissolve 2 Scruples of Camphire in as small a quantity of Spirits of wine as possible - Pur a quart of boiling water upon it, & let it stand in a jug, covered, 24 hours. Filter it through several folds of blotting Paper, formed into a funnell, & placed within a tin funnell; Cork it up. The effects of a wine glassful of this Julep will last for 4 hours.
