Saving...
The Bottom is a drifting sand and as soon as a nucleus is formed in the channel a few days will make a bar that will accumulate and the channel may break through a thousand or two feet either way. I took some pains and spent considerable time in making maps and reports for Mr Farnum without any profit to me and as near as I can judge without any benefit to him. I would not do the same thing without being paid for it. The severe labor and anxiety in almost alone and and without any guide hunting out the passes in the several chains of mountains, called for rather more nerve than I possesed. I can make you if I have the time and you desire it a map showing what I believe to be the route and my reasons for thinking so - Respectfully Yours Peter A Dey
