Omaha Oct 12th 1863 T.C. Durant Esq Dear Sir Your favor of the 5th is just received and changes my plans considerably - I can locate forty miles of Road and have it ready for letting by the 15th of November if you wish ^ the profile as far as we have gone west of Omaha is as favorable as could be expected better than I anticipated - I think you will be satisfied with it when you see the profile - I will send somebody west to those passes - my principal fear has been that I could not find a man that would do them justice - if great accuracy is not neccessary Brayton could probably run those very well - I will see him and act as I think best - The Cheyenne Pass is some what Difficult to find and an error might increase the elevation considerably - the eastern approach to Bridger Pass is considerably difficult to comprehend - I will start the survey at once - Brayton is getting along well with the south line - any letters or dispatches will reach me in a day or two - Respectfully Yours Peter A. Dey
