Omaha Oct. 12th 1863 T.C. Durant Esq Dear Sir Your instructions (Octo 3) are just received - I wrote you this morning that I would run the Levels through Bridger & Cheyenne Passes - I do not think it an object to run over Laramie Plains or down the Valley of Bitter Creek as there are no obstacles of moment there - The other difficulties of Route lie between Fort Bridger or vicinity and Provo or the mouth of the Timpanogos River - I have no faith in finding any Engineer in that valley competent to make that survey - I wish you or some person Mr Poor or Mr Ogden connected officially with the Pacific Road would telegraph Governor Brigham Young to make the survey from Provo to Fort Bridger - I dare not trust any one else to run the lines through those passes and it would relieve me and save time to have it done in that way - Mr Dodge underrates distances at this season of the year Telegraph me at Julesburg whether you have arranged with Brigham Young Truly Yours Peter A. Dey
