Omaha October 16th 1863 T.C. Durant Esq Dear Sir We are getting along very well with or Surveys and unless the weather should prove very unfavorable will have the Line west of this ready for contract at the time designated in my letter - I have been looking at the Missouri River with a view of Bridging and am satisfied that in can be done in this way - There is a point of land running south of town on which any elevation may be obtained, from this I would cross at an elevation of about eighty feet above low water or sixty above high water, which would leave ample Room below for Steam boats and by making the spans two Hundred feet there would be no trouble in passing, the draw at Rock Island is but One Hundred and twenty - the channel
