would neccessarily be between the piers somewhere - from the Bridge I would run down on the valley on the Iowa side with a seventy five foot grade or perhaps with ninety six the grade of the New York Central out of Albany - this elevation of eighty feet is about twenty feet higher than the Table on which the town stands and will aid our line in crossing the Ridge back of it - if I should not hear from you in reference to this I will locate on that ground the starting point - I have not the means of knowing whether they are building the ordinary Iron Bridges of that span, but think it sufficient, and in case a tubular bridge was required, that span would not be very expensive - It seems premature to talk of bridging the Missouri but I give you my views for what they are worth. The valley is narrower at this point than any place below this, and any point below Sioux City - The business of the Platte Valley can hardly be done by ferries in a stream
