Omaha October 23rd 1863. T.C. Durant Esq Dear Sir I telegraphed a week ago to Brigham Young to put on Corps of Engineers and run line from Provo to Green River - I also wrote him at the same time a very full letter of instructions, which I presumed he would get in ten days and before the party were out more than twenty miles. My first object being to start party my next to give him fuller details as to what should be done than I could by telegraph possibly. I have followed your instructions literally as far as I could - Professor Hodge left last night and will join the party who have full orders to give him all the aid he requires and stay with him as long as he wants them - I was much pleased with him and his plans, looked over Stansbury & Bryans
