Durant Esq Dear Sir I have not written you before because I wanted that matter left to Kountz settled before I did so - It would have been finished satisfactorily had you not told Taylor and Kellogg enough of the probabilities of the location for them to telegraph back from New York dispatches like this - I have seen Kellogs and am satisfied Taylors was of like character from its effect - it is this 'Whatever you may hear from Dey or New York about location dont be frightened it is all right or settled ' To counteract this I telegraphed you about Florence proposition but I think from a leak in the Telegraph Office it fell dead upon them and our Florence survey did not excite the least doubts - I was at my
