Omaha December 24th 1863 T.C. Durant Esq Dear Sir Your letters of the 13th & 14th inst have just reached me. Having demonstrated my unfitness for the position your partiality designed me, and acquiescing in the correctness of your views, I cheerfully give place to whoever you may send here, thinking that I may be of service until the place is filled, I will remain until the 15th of next month. I have written my family to meet me at Iowa City on the 20th of January and shall expect to be relieved by that time. Trusting that the enterprise may succeed beyond the expectations of its friends, I am Respectfully Yours Peter A. Dey
