There is reported to be on the Running Water a tributary of the Missouri about an hundred and fifty miles above Sioux City considerable Cedar for two or three Hundred miles up the stream - it is however a stream like the Platte and as you can not raft down it, I have never considered it feasible to attempt to get them from there. In the last conversation I had with you before leaving New York I pressed the importance of making tie contracts immediately - you then informed me that it was your intention to have some one else attend to that, and that I would find enough to do without that, leaving the impression on my mind and I think it legitimate, that I was desiring to infringe upon somebody elses business - In calling your attention to it in my letter of the 5th - I felt some hesitation in so doing and was only prompted to it my a sense of duty - but this is past - I have no excuses to offer or explanation to make, until the time specified in my letter of yesterday I will as a Division Engineer endeavour to discharge
