Omaha December 31st 1863 T.C. Durant Esq Dear Sir I enclose estimates of the South Line from Omaha and the profile The grading between this and Elkhorn in Yards is - 38,500 per mile The average cost of grading and bridging is for this same distance $12,300 per mile The average cost of grading alone for same distance is $10,483 Of Bridging $1,888. The bridging may be diminished nearly one half by leaving out the Masonry I have estimated it as stone at some points are convenient - the prices I have made pretty large for the kind of work - but I preferred they should be so - there are two or three slight changes that may reduce the average a little but not to $8,000 per mile Respectfully Yours Peter A Dey Average cost of Grading & Bridging to Fremont $8,500 per mile
