rise as it usually does - There is another matter the arming of the parties, which is essential for their safety as well as that of the notes &c they will bring with them. I think Evans if he can start now will make that survey from the Base of the Black Hills to Green River and Reed from Green River to Salt Lake - it is important that they start at once. Mr Reed should have an Assistant with him capable of doing his work and entirely reliable in case of sickness or accident - I do not think that Joseph Young or Mr Fox can be - judging from their surveys now and Reed will probably have to wait from ten to twenty days for seat in Overland Stage - so that his time for work at best will be short - It is all important that he start at once - Evans party is complete and ready to go - He will need three Teams and at least all told sixteen men -
