Omaha April 28th 1864 T.C. Durant Esq Dear Sir Brigham Youngs Expenditure for Survey last fall up the Timpanogos River was Eleven Hundred and Nine Dollars & twenty nine cents (1109.29) which he desires to apply on his subscription to the capital stock of the company, for that reason I did not include it in my estimate and have not returned it - I wrote him that I would advise you and if it met your views would have the amount placed to his credit and proper receipts forwarded to him. Mr Evans and party are between Kearney and Julesburgh - Mr Reed and Matthewson have started for Atkinson. I advised the appointment of Mr Brown as Second Assistant Engineer but neither he nor I have been notified of any such appointment - I think him more capable than any of the 2nd assistants as yet appointed by the Board that have been sent here - and I ask his appointment as a matter of justice - (I have telegraphed and written all the contractors that I was satisfied we could rely upon to bid on this forty miles of work) - I have received no notice of what the Board intend to pay me for my services, and as my expenditures are large living here, I feel desirous to know. for the last four years my income from my services has been considerably less than my living expenses, and I can not feel satisfied to stay here without earning enough to pay my way and something in addition -
