P.A Dey Omaha Oct. 23rd 1864. John E. Henry Esq. Sir, I find in Monroe County Iowa Township 88 - Range 46 West a tract of timber land owned by Mr. Beckly containing one thousand acres - lying on the Missouri River that I would advise you to purchase for ties - The tract was offered me for fifteen Dollars per acre but I think it may be purchased for from ten to twelve- Mr. Sprage estimates that this timber will average one thousand ties and two hundred cords of wood per acre - and that the cost of delivering on river bank for rafting about one half of what Rockport timber costs - Ties will be on average Six hundred
