Omaha December 3rd 1864 T.C. Durant Esq Dear Sir When Mr Henry was here about the latter part of October I urged upon him the importance of increasing the efficiency of the force for getting out ties, also advised the purchase of land enough to furnish all the ties and timber that would be required for some time, and designated the tracts of land that I thought from personal observation would furnish the greatest amount of ties, I presume he has been too much occupied since to give the subject the attention it deserves. Mr Hanson Mr Henrys agent here hesitates about assuming the responsibility without explicit instructions. It seems to me that the contractors should have some one on the work, devoting his entire mind to it, whose letters and communications to the general office, or his legitimate employers should receive attention, a man of capacity and integrity enough to receive their confidence, to understand the amount of money requisite or that the contractors were willing to spend in a given time and would be willing to trust his judgement in expending it.
