A man like Mr Samuel B. Reed would I think be well qualified to do this. men are apt in short visits, and without devoting time and thought to such subjects to make mistakes - to illustrate my idea, the Masonry we are building "dry work' is of rather a better character than that Edwards was building on the Adirondack Road last summer, this you told me was the kind of work you wanted built and in addition that the company could not afford to pay for finished work when other would answer full as well. Mr Seymour desired better work and I learn is trying to secure an inspector of Masonry, I know of an application being made to Mr Biggs of Dunkirk to come here in the capacity of Inspector, seeming to ignore the fact that there is not a stone quarry between the Elkhorn River and the base of the Rocky Mountains on any route, Republican, Platte or any other, and that every stone that would be laid would be in this fall. The Pappilon and Iron Bluffs Stone seem better than I anticipated and I think I would put in more culverts and rather more masonry than I told Mr. S. we should when he was here. this will leave some masonry to build next spring - I do not intend to find any fault with Mr Seymour, know his intentions were for the best, but wish to make clear to you that the Supervision of the Engineering Department of this Road, should require the constant attention and thought of an active mind
