Washington Augt 12 - 7 [1856?] P.M Tho. C. Durant [illegible] My Dear Sir Since writing you at 2 P.M to-day I saw [Ashmau?] and learned from him that - he writen you this morning and advised you that the committee on [Pablie?] [Paued?] had met late last night and stricken out the tenth section of our Bill - I felt very indignent at it & told [Ashmou?] that I felt like killing off the whole thing, but on reflection I thought they might get [foap?] the Bill, and if I said any thing against it they might strike out out road which woulf make a bad [businep?] for us - Speaker [Banks?] is a gallout fellow, and saved the Bill from going over by voting himself It comes
