Washington D.C Jany 29. 1857 Dear Durant I have yours of 27 inst + note contents -- I wrote you two or three days since that I should try + leave today for home but I do not think it would be prudent for me to start, and I now think possibly I may get off Monday -- We have got up a plan to fill the Interior Dep.t, and the Gen Ld. Office that if successful will do for us The investigating committee has about "[gin?] out" for want of material -- They had me up to know if I knew any thing about the Des Moines grant, but they were quire satisfied when
