Albany May 31st 1856 T.C Durant Esq Dear Sir Yours of yesterday [just?] to hand 1/2 past 3 o clock & to late to find out about [our?] Iron today. Unless we can contract by way of Oswego we cannot ship any Iron for two or three weeks I will find out however and let you know. There is no regular Lines here either Buffalo or Oswego that are authorised to contract but will have to consult head quarters which is either in NY or Buffalo Honey of the firm of G & H was anxious a short time since to get 2.000 Tons for Chicago and I presume would take it [low?] on Branson & Crocker Littlejohn & would advise that Jones see them & get their terms. I am afraid I cannot find out much before I go west as they will have to write to Buffalo but will see what I can do when I get there Will try there Oswego is the best route at present & I presume will be but little in going up Yours &c C.W. Durant
