Chicago and Rock Island Rail Road Co. Presidents Office Chicago May 31st 1858 Dear Uncle I wish you would see James N. Cobb and ask him if he will serve as a director in C & R.I RR Co if elected, we do not want to ellect a man and have him decline serving afterwards answer by Telegraph yes or no We think Mr Cobb & Mr Macy the men if they will run & Mr F has telegraphed Walcott to see Macy. They say it has rained here every day for 44 days If it would clear up so the farmers could bring out their grain the receipts of our road would at once increase very much. The grain is in the Line of Road and farmers are anxious to sell at the present prices. I shall go over to Iowa tomorrow Yours c CW. Durant
