the printed book & the opinion of the Court I will examine the case carefully here, & tell you whether there will be any prospect of reversing the judgment. Should the judgment roll not contain your bill of exceptions, or should it be imperfect in form or should your attorney have neglected to put it in technical shape, then the Supreme Court (after you shall have taken the incipient steps to appeal) have by the decisions perfect [power?] to give you relief & take measures to correct the error. Whether these defects exist or not, Mr Lowe + Mr Gerard who understand the practice as well if not better than I do, will examine into & take proper steps to apply for the relief above indicated; until we know what the judgment roll is we know not what to do. In fine my advice to you is to let them find out the date of the judgment & take the formal steps whereby an appeal is
