Dr. Durant is a very reticent man, and although the reports of the Engineer went to his departments and nobody ever saw them, I was as intimate with them as anybody and I never saw them"--did you not swear to that before the Committee? Ans. No. 92 I cannot say literally to every thing, but generally it is correct. I should want to make an exception, because If I said that no one saw them it was a mistake, because I saw the reports monthly and quarterly. I must have had something in my mind different from the engineer reports that were sent in, because I saw the reports myself repeatedly, and what the question was that brought out that exact answer.
