A. I think 1864 was about the time. Possible through the summer of 1864. I could not say, I was engaged in other affairs. My attorney and others attended to the business. They were told that Stewart was entitled to certain amounts;
466 - Q. Then you don't know that he [c?] got them?
A. Yes I do. I [heard?] he got them.
467 - Q. You did n't pay them yourself and did n't see them?
A. No, but I saw his receipt.
468 - Q. Have you got that receipt?
A. I don't know where it is. These papers were given at the time of the final settlement to the attorneys and I never have got them.
469 - Q. Was ti while Congress was in session?
A. No I do't think it could be I think it was after they had adjourned for the summer. The bulk of those payments wouldn't have been
