A. I don't think I can unless it is in some of the printed papers. 498 - Q. On page 43 of the "Supreme Court Stewart Case" referred to this morning, there purports to be a copy of that contract. I wish you to examine it and see if you are willing to admit it as a copy. It is prudent in connection with this paper which you presented this morning. A. I don't know whether I saw that contract or not. The circumstances attending this contract were these. There was a great deal of a fight - the worst kind of a Railroad fight and which was of [real?] interest. It was between St Louis and Chicago The original Pacific Railroad bill passed in the interest. Leavenworth & Pawnee Railroad Company which was a State Corporation and not a United States Corporation. They had the privilege if they reached the 19th meridian first, which in the Commencement of the Union Pacific, that they could take up the work and go on with it.
