Philadelphia, Jan. 20th 1866 Dear Sister Ellen; I received your letter yesterday, and it gave me pleasure to learn that you are all well. My health is very good at present, with the exception of a little cold owing to the changable atmosphere. Today the weather has been damp and chilly, with snow flakes flying occasionally. Yesterday there was rain, and now the streets are nearly impassable for a lady. This forenoon Sallie went out to buy some millinery, and while the street slipped and fell directly in about five inches of mud and water. She presented a muddy exterior. In Chestnut street I saw a lady slip on the pavement, but as good luck would have it, the mud was not very plenty. The people in the country should not complain of mud, for they can in some away avoid it, but here is go through, or stay at home till it disappears. Mrs. [Reuben?] Frankum was
