I am pleased to hear the railroad is pushing along- or rather is a certainty- perhaps when I come home again I can come by that route. [Sure it's?] quite convenient. [What?] does [illeg.] call his little girl? Well we must expect all these little things to happen in the heat of regulated families. Ellie I told you is in a [illeg.] about the Melodeon- what it would cost- etc. And that you could soon learn to play by getting a "self instruction" book for the Melodeon- Indeed it would be such a nice pastime-besides affording solid pleasure- a melodeon will last almost a lifetime by taking good care of the instrument- Any time you send for one I will try and get as cheap as well as a good- this morning I saw a very nice one for $55 on South Fifth St. - the manufacturer bought it at sheriff sale- the first cost was $100- the difference in price is owing to the wood-work- you would want good solid wood like walnut- instead of the fancy worked mahoganied style
